Default Air Filter Recommendations

So I hear a lot about K&N air filters. Is it really worth the money? Whats the advantage? Is theyre something thats comparable at a cheaper price?

On another forum they had a big drama over those things.they good in mud eviroments where normal filters clogg easily.they showed test in thier argumentative drama showing they trapped 35% less dirt and held less before they clogged.in a 4 wheel splashing in deep mud they dont clog as fast simply because they allowing water and dirt to be sucked through the foam.look on net for the comparison test to decide if it worth it for what you doing with your truck.

paper filters are fine from a performance standpoint on the road; no loss of power when compared to a K&N and traps more dirt. Save yourself the $50 or so and get a OEM paper replacememnt.

nice thing about K&N tho is theyll last the lifetime of the truck if you take care of them, just my 2 cents.

it might not be much performance difference but it makes me feel faster lol. plus the sticker is B.A. lol

i like getting good brand name stuff, nothing but the best for the things i feel are important

why not? you'll never have to buy another one, paying $15-$20 over n over for something that gets thrown away isn't logical

do NOT go K&N. they have a habit of letting oil seep out of the filter and get sucked into your intake, gumming up your MAF which results in your truck running like crap. i'm speaking from personal experience, and it also happened to my old room mate on his tacoma with a 3.4 and a drop in filter. and even if you only drive on road, you still risk sucking oil into your intake, or letting dust particles that a normal air filter would trap from getting into your engine.

Because, It needs to be changed now, and I dont need to spend 50$ on something that has no benefit to me over a 15$ filter. And when it needs changed in a year or so, Ill buy another 15$ one. Its a ford ranger, not a ferrari....

why would k&n sell them with too much oil on it? they were both drop in filters, that soon after that got dropped in the trash can.

I have heard of similar instances with other fiber filters before. The K&N filters are overrated, and are proven to let more particles through.

You also don't really have to change the air filter every year. Some times a good shake of the paper filter is enough (as long as there isn't any thick or hard buildup).

That happened to me too!!!!
Out of the box installation. I barely limped my car to a mechanic w/o a tow.
Ran perfectly that morning then CRAPPED on me.
Mech. said to never use one on an engine with a MAF sensor.
