well, check your fluid level. If its not within the min max area then fill it. That might help the problem but other than that not much you can do.

Ford is famous for it. Never owned or even ridden in a 90s 2000s ford that didn't do it.

You got it right in the heading. It's a "sound" not a "noise". If it's just a "sound", it doesn't need to be fixed.

I don't remember my 2.3l 1994 making any power steering noises...although my music was probably way to loud then.

Now, I have a 1990 4.0L and don't hear it making any noises, probably because my music was way to loud back then.

I have had decent luck with the pumps. I have a brand new 5.0L pump hooked up to my stock '88 steering box and it is not loud at all. I didn't do anything to bleed it or anything like that either. I have others that were really loud, but were also old. Some replace the pump and still get whining. I have seen power steering caps modified for a vacuum pump that draws the air out, but I am not sure if that will cure it for you. Maybe it's a sign of dirt or blockage that's causing the pump to work extra hard? I'm not too sure. Sagnaw pump is also an option that is very quiet (Google search it ).

Everywhere I've looked says "It's just a ford." When you ask. "Well how do you fix it if you wanted to" to which I'm always told "Buy a GMC"

But seriously. Say I don't want the noise. How do you fix it? Can you buy a new pump? Where can you get it for a good price. I've seen stearing pumps for about $300 which sucks. Anywhere cheaper or can I rebuild the pump myself?

my 92 sable would get low every month and start whining...so i would call it the mercury's period...leaking red fluid and whining...but check your pump to make sure its full.
