You have to find a tuner that does the 4.0L Ranger. I listed 5 star tuning above and there are several others.

And, no, done right there will be no check engine lights. This is not some clamp on nonsense or chip change. They actually upload the factory code from your computer into the SCT X3 or SF3 so you can actually put it back on later if you want and then you select which program you want to download back into the computer.

I've got 3 available for mine.

1) 15% Power Increase trying to maintain current mpg but with 91 octane.
2) 10-12 HP gain with 1-2 mpg increase on 87 octane.
3) 2-3 mpg gain on 87 octane, the one I loaded.

Still too soon to know if it's working but like I said above, I noticed immediately the engine is both starting and running smoother which has to help its efficiency. We'll see how much in about a week when I go through a tank.

So I have a stock 2.3 B-Series and I am wondering if it is worth it to get a tune to improve gas milage, or if I shouldn't bother. I have already changed my driving habits and went from 21 to 25 MPG on 87 Octane.

No idea on the 2.3. Need to contact one of the tuners listed in this thread and see what they think they can do for you? 25 ain't bad.

Default First Tank Update

The last tank before the new code was almost exactly 3/4 city, 1/4 H/W so I loaded the new code and duplicated as best I could a 3/4 city, 1/4 H/W and have seen 1.5mpg improvement. Basically driving 200 miles with a 150/50 split.

So, on the one hand, that's good improvement given the 3/4 city, 1/4 H/W but on the other hand it just means I went from 15 to 16.5mpg which simply sux for a V6 compact pickup. It is no exaggeration when I say my V8 Sierra with 300HP/325lb.ft. under the hood would average even the improved 16.5mpg under these conditions unless I had my foot in the radiator.

What is the deal with these 4.0L V6s? Or, could I perhaps just have something wrong with mine? Only has 18K miles on it so I am sure it hasn't seen a tune up. Guess it wouldn't hurt to pull a plug to see if they have the right color??

Will try to do a road trip with this new tank to see what all H/W miles gets me with this new code.

First H/W test was not good. Had 25mph south wind so going north it helped but coming back south it naturally hurt. Filled up and got 16.5mpg just like the 3/4 city 1/4 H/W previous tank.

Going to have to try some other things. This sux.

Might as well be driving a V8 and much better riding full size if I'm only going to get 16.5mpg.

Not giving up yet but this just sux.

i get 12-13 around town in my new '11.

its basicly a 20 year old engine design based off a 30 year engine design.

its ineffecient but its relaible and thats all that matters to me.

I havent gotten my Economy tune yet but I did change my driving habits. Pre any tune I was getting 15mpg on a good day... With a performance tune I got 16.5 and then I started using the Instant MPG thing on my UltraGauge and I pushed it up to 18.5 then I added a Tonneau cover and I managed to creep up to 19.5 thats about 95% Hwy Driving though. That was also with One day being late for work and not caring about MPGs. This tank Im gonna see how high I creep it. My goal is 20-20.5 maybe higher

Then I want to do a Strickly Economy tune with some power loss but so MPGs added for DD. Lets see where I can get a 4.0 with 33/12.50s and 4.10s w/3" Body Lift on the MPG scale

I also want to do Screamin Demon Coil and Plgs and wires and see if that can creep me up.

Also I have an exhaust on the way. Was not purchased for any MPGs I just like the Sound. But I will let you know if anything changes.

okay so all that info id GREAT if you stay stock, but what if you changed your engine around and messed with the timing and compression? I have a 4.0 ohv with the 422 comp cam, flat top pistons, ported heads and a few other mods. Im making 10.5:1 compression ratio so I need a custom tune tuner to fix the bugs. Any suggestions other then the ones posted?

yeah, an SCT with custom tunes. A good tuner can write tune files to work with your mods.

Meaning finding a shop with a dyno? Or can they make it based of my modifications with out touching or seeing it? I apologize if this seems to be a dumb question its not intentional, I just dont know.
