Default Oil Leak Still After VC Gasket Change

I just replaced the valve cover gaskets on my 04 4.0L and still have an oil leak. I put new gaskets on with a bead of RTV sealant on both sides of the gasket. This leak is on the passenger side rear outside bolt. The small bolt well is filling up with oil and dripping onto the exhaust.

This is the bolt that the leak is at before it was reassembled.

I cleaned and inspected the mating surfaces and did not see any cracks. Could this leak be coming from an interior crack into the bolt threads?

And would removing the bolt and sealing with RTV around the bolt head and the sleeve solve this? As always, any help is greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

Bruce

damn thats no good, it could have a crack in the threads, but its unlikely... i dont know for sure if putting rtv in the threads would work, but i would give it a shot, my biggest concern with it tho is if it doesnt work, the bolt is gonna be insanely hard to get out.

No. It would not be hard to take out. RTV is a very weak rubber. Give it a try. I wish I could see a gasket and where it goes. If it is just a flat sealing surface with nothing to hold the gasket in place the most likely case is that the gasket slipped sideways.

The valve cover had a groove in it where the gasket set in but it's still possible. It's not leaking in any other area where it leaked before. I'm going to try RTV on the bolt and see what happens. I'll let you know.
