Default Is a cold air intake system worth it?

I have a stock 2005 Ranger XLT 4X4, and was wondering if a cold air intake system is worth the money. I had a K&N intake on a 1998 Ranger I previously owned. I have been shopping around and I found that AFE is quite a bit cheaper than K&N. Just wondering if anybody has any input. Thanks for the help!

Nope. You will not gain any performance, mpg, or other BS that the flashy marketing says you can gain. The good reason for that is because the stock intake on a stock motor is already sized and placed to draw full capacity fresh outside air. Testing on a dyno and with intake air temperature monitoring proves this. So if you are looking for performance, there are many much better things to spend your money on that will actually do something.

If down the road you make engine and exhaust modifications that will increase the amount of air the engine needs to suck in, then and only then will any of those silly kits help you. And on that note, you must make sure you get one that actually draws fresh air from the outside. Those stupid kits that have open cone filters under the hood hurt performance since they just suck in hot air from under the hood which will hurt performance significantly.

Yes, there are other vehicles and motors where these are useful devices. The ranger just isn't one of them. And that is a GOOD THING because its money you can spend on something else.

The money you save, I would suggest getting a tuner. They actually do make a difference and are worth every dime. And you cand modify and change your tunes based on your needs and changes.

Well excuse me Matt, but I have gain 50 HP and 20 MPG ever since my cold air intake installation. Truck is super quick and easy on the gas. LMAO SIKE! I agree, cold air intakes does nothing but give you that whistle sound like what Clinton says. That and it's mainly for looks like what Brett said. I shake my head in shame all the time when I see these companies selling CAI systems for like 250 dollars (minimum) and max I saw was like 600 !! WTF!

Lots of people hate on CAIs because they cannot tell the difference between the different kinds of intakes.

I would never install a CAI on a 4x4, it completely defeats the purpose of the truck.

if u plan on getting other mods then get a cold air intake. if u plan on gettin only the cold air intake it isnt worth it. for example, im getting a supercharger down the road so i got one.

Yeah I think it might be affecting my mpg since mine isn't specific for my vehicle
