Default I want one! Help me out.

So right now I have the 3.0L V6 and I'm lookin at doin an engine swap. I wanna put the 4.0L V6 in it. Not sure which engine has 200hp tho. Is it the SOHC or the OHV? And where do I get the engine and transmission to do it?

you know going to a junkyard and finding a 5.0L in good shape might be a good idea too and just pull the transmission from that too

3.0 to 4.0 = easy
3.0 to 5.0 = NOT easy. That takes way more planning. I'm doing the swap now and I've been researching it for 2 years.

really what makes it so hard?? i thought about doing it with my dad... but Im not sure now.. i figured all you would need is the computer and the 5.0L from a wrecked explorer and motor mounts for it and the transmission and maybe a new driveshaft and rearend and thats it... but i understand that that is alot of work to do and alot of parts but isnt that it basically? or is the problem deep within fitting the motor?

I'm not saying not to do it, but understand that alot more goes into it than a swap from one v6 to another. The 3.0 and 4.0 were both ment to be in the ranger, the 5.0 was not. Dont take my word for it, do your own research. Not to put down this forum, but I gleaned a massive amount of info from therangerstation.com. Look in their resources. If you want, PM me and I'll send you all the links and sites u found useful info in.

...while it's true that the 5.0L never came stock in a Ranger, I think you'll find a few 5.0L Explorers around. The Ranger and Explorer shared a frame, as well as several body and interior components.

Correct. The Explorer 5.0 is the favorite for a swap. TRS has a nice overview of just that. Just remember, the 5.0 V8 in the Explorer didn't have much more power. That's why I chose to buy a new short-block and am building the motor to be exactly what I want.
