the ticking you are most likely hearing is the valves "clacking" this is normal. just about every engine does this at some point.

or it could be the fuel injectors clicking away. I've heard that the 4.0's injectors are really loud, and its just the way they work. mine are the same way.

injectors sound kind of like a ballpoint pen being clicked really fast.

the check engine light came on a while ago and the codes were related to the fuel injectors. i had them clear the codes. Could that have anything to do with it? how do i know if the fuel injectors are bad?

the 3.0 vulcan is a pushrod design, so yes low oil = lifter noise in that application. not in an overhead camshaft engine.

lets not freak out. the solenoids inside injectors make noise when they close and open, period. some are louder than others, it's inherent to their design.

now, if it was throwing a code related to the fuel injection system, then yeah, there could be something up. do you know what the codes were, or did you get a description from whoever read/cleared them for you?

If an injector was completely clogged or failed, the engine would run noticeably worse.

ive got the codes somewhere (got to find them), but the engine runs fine and ever since the codes were cleared, they havent kicked the check engine light on again. I could just be paranoid lol. Im gonna try some ZMAX engine lube or some other kind of engine lube and see if that helps.

chevron gas could help too. but its expensive, lol

as long as its a consistent clicking noise (steady, evenly spaced "ticks") its probably normal. let us know if you do find the codes.
