Default Oil Question (4.0L Gods Please Respond)

Hey guys i did my oil change today on my truck, and i filled it to 5 qts and it showed 3/4 qt low, now i know the manual says 5 qts so this is what is baffling me.

My dad (ase cert. mechanic) told me to just add another qt, as it'll take more than 6qts on these engines to cause any issues... is this true?

im going to check the level again in the morning, but do i need to drain a half qt out or will i be fine?

again the mercy of the 4.0L gods is appreciated, and sorry for the very newbish question, ive done countless oil changes and i never got a different reading from the manual. how much does the filter hold?

thanks again everyone, as i am paranoid to drive it as i dont wanna cause seal or airiation problems for me as this truck is literally brand new.

also when i changed the oil (630 miles) the oil was black as hell, smelled like gas, and had a greenish tint to it, just figured it share lol.

thanks everyone,

-Dave

did not fill filter, but there is now a total of 6qts in the engine now.

now is the manual 5 qts w/o filter or with filter?

will the 4.0 be alright with 6qts?

it shuld mean with system in running/ full capisaty including the filter filled when put on. so if you didnt fill the filter, 6qt shuld not be a problem run it and fet it sit flat and check it after you got it hot it shuld be just fine. rember 4.0s have big filters

yeah i noticed that right away,

my dad's been arguing with me all night that 6qts will be fine, and he swears when i he looked at my dipstick i was 3/4qt low upon first startup and check of oil with 5qts.

----------

im just worried about blowing out my seals, oil frothing, and decreasing my motor longevity.

this is my 1st new vehicle and im a lil paranoid to take the best possible care of it. lol

Not unusual, especially if the filter is bigger than stock. As long as the engine isn't over filled (past the full mark). You'll be fine.

the engine takes 5 quarts period. not 5 quarts and what ever is in the filter, just 5 quarts, not 6. is it overfull? maybe. if youre worried about it drain a quart out.

FO SHO! Yes 5 quarts and thats it. I just get the 5 quart jugs at Walmart and when I change my oil and add the new stuff it perfect everytime! That does include new filter
