Default coolant leak

Hey all,

I have a 1990 4.0 ranger and am having a coolant leak issue.

Initially I thought it was the water pump gasket failing but I pulled it off cleaned and installed a new gasket and water pump. I also pulled apart the thermostat and housing cleaned up and reinstalled with new thermostat and o'ring.

The leak looks like it is coming from behind the thermostat housing and under the PX side valve cover.

Does that sound like a location anyone has encountered before for a coolant leak? and what am I looking at for repairing?

I can try to take pics if anyone thinks that will help.

thanks,

John

Here are a couple photos. The leak looks like it is coming from behind and under where the thermostat housing mounts. It is not where it mounts at all. I am not sure what is back there that could be leaking. Anyway, if anyone has any good opinions or ideas chime on in.
Thanks,

Just for the record and closure. It was the lower intake manifold gasket. And what a failure it was. When I finally exposed it I am surprised it was keeping anything from where it wasn't supposed to be.

All back together and up and running no leaks..............for now!!!

We will see what tomorrow brings!

Thanks!
