yeah save it for something that will make a difference, although the intake looks good in there. save that for later, get an exhaust or the screamin demon coil pack or idk lots of things to do for that price range.

k&n filter is oil based, it can mess with the MAF (mass air flow sensor) i would shop around and find an oiless airfilter that is washable. i forget what companies make em.

well if the oil based filter is the case then wouldnt that be a problem airbox modded or not? i just mean is there any downside to the mod itself. I think Ryan put it pretty well though lol. i trust k&n enough to use their filter. thanks guys

The mod has no downside. End of story. No matter what people try and say. And yes spectre makes a nice filter too.

The 4.slow only ha one mod to make it "faster" replace it with a V8

I have yet to see any real dyno results to prove any of these things are anything but a waist of money.

So i have my good old bone stock 4.0 2001 ranger. and i want to do a little bit of modding. first truck, learning experience, getting my hands greasy. I have read alot of good reviews already but i just want to make sure putting an aftermarket intake would be a good idea. Is it really even worth it to go and buy/put one on. All feedback is appreciated
Forget about a CAI, cheapest ones are 350$+ and offroading is out of the question with them, the tip will likely always be submerged. Winter will be a major headache too with snow, ice and slush.

A short ram does gives a cool sound to the truck . I don't know about performance improvement. It does on a car but several people here said it doesn't with our trucks.
