Gasoline/Octane Questions
I know gas prices are high right now, but if i put 87 octane into my truck and i switch right up to 93 will it kill anything? I just put in 89 tonight and so far everythings good. Besides a deeper hole in my wallet what are the benefits to a higher preium gasoline?

Re: Gasoline/Octane Questions
hotter burn, better combustion etc... if you have a stock motor 87 is fine, you are wasting money on higher octane gas ,you wont see if any increase in power if your engine is stock.
i run av gas in my 78' but she is made for leaded fuel. she don't run on 87. it has to have 97 or more and leaded to run the best. but the only stock part is the block.
stock motors only need 87octane to run great

Re: Gasoline/Octane Questions
depending on where you go, itll clean your engine better, keep fuel rails unclogged, cleaner combustion chamber's cleaner intake valves, plus maybe 1mpg better at best

147,000 on 87 never had fuel rail cleaned or injectors cleaned. i get 15-16mpg.
but what you said is true.

Re: Gasoline/Octane Questions
Wow, that's basically all wrong. Please do not be fooled by their marketing department's use of the words "super" or "premium".
The purpose of octane is to RESIST combustion. Our engines are designed to operate properly on 87 octane and only 87 octane. Putting a higher octane fuel into our engines will cause POOR combustion. Therefore increasing carbon and other crap building up in the cylinders and on the valves. It will not burn hotter, in fact it will burn cooler since it will burn incompletely and delayed. Your MPG will decrease. Your performance will decrease. And your wallet will thin out.
The higher octane fuels are for high performance, high compression engines. Unless you have modified or re-tuned your stock engine to make proper use of the higher octane, you are only harming your engine trying to use it. Any detergent additives you may or may not get out of using a the higher octane fuel is meaningless and will do nothing for you. It won't actually clean anything or fix anything. Even if it was of a high enough concentration to be anything more than a gimick, the negative impact of the higher octane will negate it.
So, stick with 87.

Re: Gasoline/Octane Questions
idk my mustang v6 that was designed to run on 87 ran a lot better on 93...could've been the Ti-VCT and advanced spark timing blah blah blah

WRONG. Octane is mearly a hydrocarbon. Hydrocarbons are made from carbon and hydrogen atoms.
The "Octane Rating" is the resistance of fuel to self-ignite. Far from your claim of octane resisting combustion.

WRONG. The higher rating indicates its higher tolerance for self-ignition. Its still fuel, when the plug sparks it will ignite.

CORRECT. But only because the higher compression engine will cause 87 to self ignite due to the higher compression ratio. The motor needs the higher rating octane to prevent self-ignition of the fuel.
And what does self-ignition cause..... Engine knock/ping.
----------
I also run 93 in all of our vehicles, it is proven on the odometer to get better MPG. The pipes are clean running it, we dont have any of the black suit coming from them.
The neigbor has a crown vic with the 4.6, it says to run premium only, whats the difference in motor design from his 4.6 to my 5.4 that says 87...? I still run 93 in all. Per fill up its only about $3-$4 more, $80 to fill up for 87 or $83 form 93....I think the little extra cost is worth it. IMO

Re: Gasoline/Octane Questions
Wow. You're an idiot. Everything I said is correct and your entire argument is a bunch of bullshit. You either said the exact same thing I did using different words, or totally contradict yourself. Please give up your moronic crusade against everything I say. It's not working.

I'm not angry. I just don't sugar coat what I say. I say what I'm thinking, not what is politically correct and nice.

Doesnt mean what he says makes him automatically an idiot. Correct with facts. Not names.

Re: Gasoline/Octane Questions
I already posted correct information. So I don't need to repeat it all to rebut what he said. My referring to him as an idiot is not solely based on this one silly thread (I'm not that much of a dick). It's a pattern, and many of his idiotic replies are solely for the purpose of trying to contradict me just because it's me.
