Default Help! Locked front driver's wheel!

I was wondering if anyone had a diagnosis for my truck, my front driver's side wheel has locked up. I have a 2005 Automatic Ford Ranger XLT, 4.0 SOHC. I was driving to work, and as I made a left turn I heard (and felt) a loud thump, and about a 1/4 mile down the road, and loud grinding noises came from the front. I pulled over, and my girlfriend watched as i pulled forward- my front drivers side tire locked up. It took around 2500rpm to get the truck moving at all. I can reverse fine, and engage 4x4, but as soon as it shifts into drive the tire will not budge. If I shifted into reverse and back into drive, the front driver's side wheel would start working briefly (for about 10ft), but this has stopped being effective and now I can either reverse or drag the tire. Previously I have noticed a slight difficulty in disengaging form 4x4, but never anything major, just a slight turn of the wheel and it would pop back into 2x4. Any suggestions?

Now both front tires are locked, had to have the tow truck drop it directly in the garage. It seems that the rear-wheel drive is working ok however, and the truck starts and runs perfectly fine.

sounds like the hubs are bad. check the brakes if they are good then it has to be the hubs.

Thanks, it ended up being the brakes- a $4.00 bolt broke that was holding the brake mount on, and it torqued against the disc! Now its working like new

No damage at all, there wasn't enough threadlock on the bolt holding the brake mount down, and it managed to shift out. The disc was fine, I just had to run over to ACE hardware and pick a new one up - took less than 20 minutes to fix it all up haha. All that over a 5 hour fiasco including a ride in a tow truck...
