Default Starts and dies

My sons 2005 Ranger 4.0 starts and dies unless you press the acclerator pedal imediately. Haven't had time to look at it with the holidays but if anyone has an idea where to look first, please ..........

I have a scanner but no light on yet.

I would start with the IAC valve.

It's been pretty cold but we got to pull the codes today and there are none. A quick check of the vacumn lines shows no leaks. It is pretty hard to guess when it won't idle. It dies imediately if you let off the pedal.

X2 for the IAC -- They can freeze in place at times - the air-speed through there coupled with the shaping of the ait passage can lead to some significant icing.

If you have time to remove it and clean it -- a little coating of WD40 helps to keep the moisture build-up from being able to "stick" as well... (I use SeaFoam's "Deep Creep" product on them) - stay away from anything with silicones in it -- the silicone's can 'cloud' your o2 sensors. (so no furniture polish or baking sprays )
