Default Engine cutting out at cruise speed

Hi everyone! Longtime reader first time poster! Anyways I have an '06 with a 4.0 ohv with a 5speed with about 50,000 miles on it. Today I'm heading home from work and have the cruise control set around 60 and suddenly the whole truck jerked it did this about 5 times. I shut the cruise off and continued on at the same speed. in a stretch of about 15 miles I'd say the truck did this about 30+ more times before stopping the last 8 miles or so of the trip. It seemed to me like the engine was cutting out for a split second or so each time it did this. I never had an engine light come on. I'm not sure where to even start with this one. It seems like it could be a fuel delivery issue but I don't think a pump or filter could be that erratic. Any ideas? And how worried should I be about it?

i had something a lot like that happen to me and it ended up being the battery cable was loose and jumping up and down. it was weird but as soon as i tightened up the cables it stopped completely.

you better check that fast because that night my alternator went out. im not sure if that caused it or it was just time for it to go. (100k miles at the time)

hmmm thats an interesting scenario because about a month ago I left the lights on and ran the battery dead and had to jump it. After jumping it I must have left the protective cover off on the positive terminal and didn't realize it till I checked under the hood yesterday. The cables were tight so I doubt that cover being off would hurt anything but I'll double check it anyway.
