Default Fuel filter wrench?

Ok bought tool for fuel filter from autozone, but can not get the old filter off! Is there more than one type of wrench? I have a 99 Ranger 4x4 4.0. It should not be this hard. Help

I never used a tool on mine. If you have the quick release like me you can do it with just about anything. I use a flat head screwdriver to push little clips in then they pop right off. I hear people say that the tool is just a waste of money.

Wait. Are you talking about the lines or the actual filter?

No the actual connectors on the fuel filter, I don't think its a quick connect, there is nothing on the outside to push. The filter itself has a raised ring around each end, if this is helpful.

find the ends that fit over the lines fairly closely, and grab the filter. push the tool toward the line, and it should pop right off. Its really not that complicated once you figure it out. hope this helps.

go to post #15 on this thread http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...d.php?t=102197 hit the connectors with pb blaster first.... I use a different style tool than they show in the thread it is a 5/16 scissors style. here is a link http://indoors.pricegrabber.com/mech...805354275.html I think starting in 2001 or 2002 is when they added the pushbutton easy disconnects. This actually is not very difficult once you do it. make sure you pull the fuel pump fuse to relieve the pressure before you change the filter

DONT FORGET to release the pressure or you'll have gas EVERYWHERE!

There will still be pressure and fuel in the lines if this all you do.

I usually just go unplug the fuel disconnect/shut off sensor in the passenger kick panel then start the truck a few time to run the fuel out of the lines.
