Default no oil pressure

so i noticed 3 times now, when i start her up for the first time of the day, (if i remember its always been cold) the check gauges light comes on and it says i have no oil pressure, then after about a minute or 2 it pops back to life and shows my pressure is back to normal.

it wouldnt toke long to seize a motor with no oil so im assuming its a sensor messing up... what do you guys think?

if youre not hearing any knocking or ticking form the motor i wouldnt worry about it much. the oil pressure sending units are known to stick when its cold, mine does the same thing. i just shut off the truck and restart it and it usually comes back up to normal. its just a sensor thing.

Yeah it probably wouldn't hurt to replace it.

I have had the gauge needles stick on me before. Usually when the temp is low and the window is open a crack. Must have something to do with moisture.

My sister has a 99 explorer that does the same thing. I changed the oil on it a few weeks ago and when I started it up it had no oil pressure. Scared the heck out of me until she said, oh it does that all the time. And about a minute later the needle shot up.

I have an aftermarket autometer manual oil pressure, water temp, and boost guages I don't mess around with the factory/aftermarket electrical sending unit stuff I like knowing what's really going on. Yea maybe a little bit more of pain in the ass to mount and run all the lines but at least I don't have to worry about sending units.

But as Patrick said if there is no knocking/ticking from the motor while the gauge reads no pressure then it's an electrical issue with the sending unit or it just may just need to be flat out replaced
