Hi All,
I have an 02' 4.0 XLT 4x4 and I have noticed that the engine bay gets extremely hot. There is no air movement or space for that matter in there.
I was hoping to hear if anyone had addressed this and what they did.
My thoughts are to either scoop it, or finish in some louvers directly above the header gaps. I am currently building up this truck for performance and well this hampers alot.
Build up
Ram Air, K&N, Plugs, Wires, (looking for lightweight pulleys), Catback, keeping stock headers for TQ.

i've seen on other forums that some people get the power dome hood and have opened up the back by the windsheld and cut holes on the bottem side of the hood to make a place for air to excape.

i cut out the back opening on my cowl hood on my 95 and it acts like a heat extractor. works really good too

timmah, thanks for posting that pic that's exactly what i was trying to explain. do you drive the truck in the winter? if so what do you do about keeping the engine warm enough for the heater to keep up?

if i have to drive it in the winter the stock hood goes back on . my truck came equipped with a block heater so i just plug it in overnite

If that cowl works like you say I would think it would be quite good.
I would just need to find a hood like it. I was thinking something like finish in louvers or inserts, Cowls are supposed to push air in the bay due to the atmospheric? pressure at the base of the windshield. I'm thinking there's plenty of air under the truck and since heat rises just follow the same principles as naturally occur. I guess I'll be the first. . . Oh boy! Allthough I do think I would like the look of an old school camaro scoop at the back of the hood groove(center depression in the swollen hoods). Thanks for the thoughts and pics.
