Default Marbles in engine sound

My 2000 Ranger 4.0 pushrod makes a sound like marbles in the engine at low RPMs after warm up. Does not make the noise when first started or when RPMs are over about 2000. Sound is louder from under truck. Truck runs fine otherwise. Is this a common noise for this truck or could there be a problem?

mine does that too. i havent had time to tear into it but i think its either a loose timing pulley (like the idler pulley) or a couple loose rocker arms. i am not sure about either of these but thats what it seems like to me.

ps my truck has 109k miles. just curious how long has yours been making the sound?

It's normal in our ohv engines it does that because of poor circulation of oil all the way to the top of the engine. That is why you only hear it at low rpms and not high

unfortunatly..... no but i know people who have chased this sound for the whole life of the truck... the way i look at it is like this.... its a machine, its going to make noise, as long as your not hearing a defined knock your good

Thanks for all the replies. I have had the noise for a long time now and always wondered if it was tipical of the 4.0 so just like a winey child, I will continue to ignore it.

If it's any consolation, my 2.5L is noisy at idle as well but clears up once the revolutions go up.
