Default Oil filter recommendations for a 2008

I just bought a 2008 FX4 today and as soon as I got home began changing the oil. I've been doing a lot of research on here and was excited to read that it took the same oil filter that I use on my TJ - Motorcraft FL-1A. At least that's what I thought as I soon discovered the bolt threads are different and that I actually needed a PH2 for my new Ranger. When did Ford change to this size and are there any longer filters that will work instead as the PH2 looks tiny compared to the Motorcraft FL-1A. Thanks for any help/input!

STICK WITH MOTORCRAFT OR MOTORSPORTS oil filters as they have a check valve. A lot of your "aftermarket" filters do not and will allow for a Dry start

Yeah, seems to be the general consensus that Motorcraft is king. Looks like I need to go buy a bunch of Motorcraft FL-820S's next time I'm in the US as I haven't been able to find any here in Vancouver, BC. I still think it's odd that the FL-820S is so much smaller than the FL-1A considering they're for the same engine but maybe I'm just overthinking it...
