Started up the Ranger a few days ago and there was a noticeable screech for about 2-3 seconds when starting engine cold. I'm not sure if it's a water pump or power steering issue. So far it is only when I first fire up engine cold. If I start the engine warm no sound.

What is best way to isolate which system is causing the screech?

A friend asked if their was a new belt put on and may just need adjustment. I don't know since I have only owned the truck about a month.
