Default Rough Idling

hey my 97 ranger has just started idling rough yesterday, i put some lucas gas treatment in it and it helped out a little, i plan on changing the fuel filter tomorrow. Does anyone else have any suggestions for me to try or do to help this issue also, i have changed both my fuel pump and filter withing the last 8 months. Also whenever i get below 1/4 of a tank when i go to take off after stopping the engine stalls out for at least 3 seconds the longest being at about 8 seconds, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Air filter? Also I suggest you check the fuel pressure. I don't know the exact procedure but it is something you can test.

pull the vacuum line of the fuel pressure regulator there should not be any fuel in the line........if you find your gauge you need to do koeo and koer and pull the line the vauum line off during the koer test..

add someTechron to the tank.........there has been some reports of Shell and a few others doing some damage to the check valves and sender units...Techron claims to repair it....

Do a koer wuth the vacuum line disconected. See how many cycles it takes to get to full pressre koeo. See how much it drops in 5 minutes after turning engine off

My 4.0 does the exact same thing only when its hot though, my mechanic said its a little oxygen sensor that is bolted right on top of the engine. I took it off and cleaned it and that fixed it for a little while. I havent gotten around to buying a new one yet.

your oxygen sensor are in the pipe before and after the cat.......I am not sure what you cleaned. i was thinking ECT but that usually is on the front or side

Okay maybe its not the oxygen sensor, but its something the measures and maintains how much oxygen gets into the engine.

that should be the MAF sensor. it is in the air intake. make sure the air intake is not blocked and that the air filter is clean
