man even tho mines a 2.9l,the way newer rangers run are similar.Becuase of the emissions junk,at statup anyway,espeacially because of all the sensors that kick in n run checks to bring the idle down,it should idle down some,but like mine im haveing egr problems which is giving it a high,loud,muffled,sounding idle at start,and emissions light goes off when she idles down.in lue i found out i have a couple sensors going bad in my emissions system,plus egr valve is so packed n full of junk,needs cleaning n repairing most of that stuff to fix the high idle she has,hope this helps with some ideas.
