Default High Idle at Start-up

Have 97 4.0 4X4. Having problem all of a sudden with high idle speeds at start-up only. RPM's will go back down, sometimes too low, on their own but I can also gently tap the accelerator to get RPM's to normal range. Please help and advise, I'm stumped.

man even tho mines a 2.9l,the way newer rangers run are similar.Becuase of the emissions junk,at statup anyway,espeacially because of all the sensors that kick in n run checks to bring the idle down,it should idle down some,but like mine im haveing egr problems which is giving it a high,loud,muffled,sounding idle at start,and emissions light goes off when she idles lue i found out i have a couple sensors going bad in my emissions system,plus egr valve is so packed n full of junk,needs cleaning n repairing most of that stuff to fix the high idle she has,hope this helps with some ideas.

Mine was doing that shit a week ago and didn't seem to want to go back done when I put it in gear. Did it 2 or 3 times and hasn't done it since.
20O3 extended cab, 2wd, silver, 3.0, toyo spectrum tires, 10,000k HID's, 8' in bazooka tube, and UWS toolbox

Check the IAC (idle air control) on the drivers side of the upper intake, right behind the throttle body.

Unplug it. Truck should run very low, plug it back in and truck should surge high.

Most all IAC valves from f150-expeditions-explorers will work from like 93-present. Just make sure you get the wire for it, you will have to cut and put the new plug on if you do this.
