Default have a question about engine, i went swimming

hey guys so about 2 weeks ago my friends and i were wheeling and i went through a mud/water pit and everything was fine, then i went through it again the other direction and water splashed up past my headlights, but my truck wasn't submerged it just splashed up.

my truck made a few weird sounds then died, i looked at my air filter and it was dripping water and all dirty, then driving it home the engine got overheated and fluid was spraying all over from the radiator cap. i took it to sears for an inspection and they did a pressure test and said they cant find any cracks or holes etc and the engine seems solid but the gasket thing on my radiator cap was busted so i got a new radiator cap and thermostat and filled it up with 50/50 and now runs strong but i took it out wheeling again just on trails no mud or water and the engine was getting pretty hot but not at red. my friend recommended a new water pump but i dont know his knowledge of trucks level and wanted some input if you guys can.

i never really payed attention to my temp gauge till now since ive seen it almost bust off. am i just being a baby about it or can i do something to help it, my truck seems to be really loud now but it could be just because the brand new air filter not being clogged. my gas pedal seems sticky too the first time i press on it????

sorry about the long story lol

any help would be appreciated, im the second owner of the truck so i dont know what the last owner put it through so maybe oil change? water pump? more 50/50 or water?

thanks,

tanner

I had a similar problem with my old 2 door tahoe. It would just get water in the manifold and shutoff for a while or sputter and die.

Thats good. You just might wanna ease up on all the baja. It's fun, but it destroys trucks.

you could have sucked some mud up into your throttle body or it just could be carbon'd up. clean it. the overheating... here we go...

1. check coolant level - if low, fill
2. check all hose connections - especially the lower, since you went muddin
3. if this is possible - look at your timing cover and look for evidence of a leak trail -
if there is a leak trail in the front it could be 1 of 2 things THERMOSTAT HOUSING or
TIMING COVER SEAL
4. if no leaks are found - listen to for your fan - if no fan operation - check connections
and make sure the blades are free of any obstructions - continue inspection of
possible water intrusion of the connectors to the fan
5. if still over heating - respond to thread as my effin fingers are hurting

could have burned up the fan clutch from water dragging it down, and hopefully it killed it before it sucked water in too far...

when i was in high school i was drunk and wheeling, thought the river crossing looked shallow, few seconds later i had my truck completely under water, luckily being drunk i killed stalled it right as i was going in. 3 big ass trucks and a ripped off bumper i got it out. lesson learned.

Where are your vents for your transmission and differentials. I'm betting you might have water in them unless you relocated them to a higher point.

If you are going to more of what you did, you might want to consider a snorkel to prevent future occurances. A member here made a snorkel that is still under the hood if you want to search for the thread.

Ya I've thought about a snorkel. I think it would help. I don't plan on doing it again but would be comforting knowing I got it...

yeah i dont plan on sinking mine in a deep puddle but sometimes those "shallow looking" puddles on the side of the road will call my name...

Considering this just started, I'd lean towards the fan clutch too.
