Default my truck 1997 ford ranger 4.0 has a blown soft plug. the machanic wants $260 to fix

it but he said I should ? replace all the soft plugs. Truck has 174000 miles. He said the condition of the coolant may have caused the other plugs to rust and soon they will have to be replaced. Does this sound like something I should do? I was planning to get a different truck in march.

I've done these, and some can be a pain in the rear, and $260 is not a bad price. I have also had some where I replace one, fill up the cooling system, and then another one starts to leak. If you are going to get rid of the truck, you can do one of two things. 1.) I would only fix the one. If the others start leaking, then replace them. 2.) If it's not a bad leak, you may get by with just using some stop leak product. I personally like Alumi-Seal. It comes in powder form in a container like a roll of quarters. Costs about $2.

Have a second price given for the replacement of just the blown one

Then get a price from another garage ..

Make sure you tell them which one it is because if it is in a bad

spot ( like behind a component or mount ) it will be more expensive.

Hope this helps...
