what does SNOW turn into when it melts? I'm just saying? I know snow here in any habitat where people live doesnt stay frozen on a vehicle.
Keep in mind, when things get cold, they become brittle. Temperatures in moist weather are not likely to be as cold when it is snowing, snow usually comes with extremely low temps combined with heavy moisture and atmosperic psi's compress the moisture to what we call snow.
My theory behind this members concerns is like this.... it gets cold.... the wiper cowl warps slightly... allows moisture in to the PCM... but not enough to fry it... just enough to cause his misfire intermittanly... hell all it is, is a theory and well worth just looking at to see if that is the issue.

Except if that was the case, then ANY precipitation or condensation would cause it. It can snow above 32 degrees and it can rain below 32 degrees. And his area of Vermont, that is very common. Atmospheric moisture and pressure are irrelevant and in fact completely contradict it, especially in the winter. I know you're trying to guess at the problem, but already ruled out what your suggesting.

Is there no contact within the engineering group at Ford where enigmas like this can be addressed? Someone who understands all the electronic controls and how they interact with the mechanical functioning of the engine.
I've been totally frustrated for years and have asked scores of mechanics for help with this problem. It just defies any logical explanation.

I would suggest calling Ford Customer Service at 1-800-392-3673

Had the same issue the first winter I had my Ranger. It's an '02 4x4. After searching for an answer and finding none, I did some checking under the hood. I was going to physically check my MAF which required removing the air filter cover. What I found was that the filter cover was not securely latched. On a hunch that possibly the snow was being drawn directly into the MAF through the unlatched air filter cover, I secured the cover- it was not easy and it did appear as though it was latched- I waited for the next snow and the problem was gone. At least this worked for me- the last two winters without a missfire.

Wish that were the case. Checked this morning and found the air cleaner properly installed and tight. No chance of anything getting through or around and into the MAF.
Interestingly though, under the filter I found about 30 pea seeds which must have been deposited by a mouse/chipmunk.
After cleaning the MAF sensor, I've seen no change in performance. We had a little 'near' snow yesterday and I detected a hint of the skip but nothing definitive yet. I have to assume the problem still exists despite following the suggestions of all concerned here. My thanks to all who have offered their thoughts.

OK. have a 99 ranger, 4.0, 150k miles problem is roughness, mostly noticeable around 1000 rpm to 1200 rpm, bucking/hiccup on acceleration. Has been this way for most of a year. Not bad, just annoying. Have Checked & changed everything I can, no EGR Sensor on this rig. Many posts on other sites suggest this as problem. Finally gave up and took to a FORD shop.

Not sure I even trust them now.

They called back to try and get OK to fix "oil leak" at valve covers $500, and then ball joints $500..........what a scam. There is the slightest bit of oil below covers. Told them to put it back together and would find someone else to find the "REAL" problem with engine roughness. Then they said it was a misfire on #1 & #2, arcing from wire to plug. But, I see no signs of arcing. And the plug wire have no sign of wear. The Ford techs did not even knock the dust off of them???? Must test from afar.

What now?

You're new. Please post this in a new thread, not as a reply to a completely unrelated thread. It's like interrupting you talking to change subjects.

My truck did this a total of 3 times last year, all between 40mph-45mph and right around 2000rpm

It's done it 2 times this winter so far. And as the OP stated, it only happens when its snowing. And only when I was following somebody

Still..it only does this with snowflakes falling. Rain..drizzle..etc. and it works fine? And no precipitation at all..but the temperature at or below freezing it works OK?
