Guys, In my case:
I finally got the truck to act up again the other day...It was snowing..and it was a light fluffy snow. Keep in mind that for a couple of months now Ive had no snow and no problems...Following my theory, I had stopped at a local auto parts store and bought the proper paper/stock style filter. Once the truck started acting up, I promptly pulled over and installed the paper filter in lieu of my K&N.
NO TROUBLE for the rest of the drive...it stopped like magic. I guess snow was able to seep past the oiled cotton and hit the heated MAF element once in awhile causing a bad reading.
In my case, Im calling it problem solved. I'll post again if this was not the definative fix.
Yay!!

i hav 2wd 3.0 issues as well. that "pothole" or "bump" feeling i get wen im accelerating slowly. i talked to my buddy he blamed it on the "crap ford transmissions" but i have a feeling it isnt the case. has anyone had this problem with a 3.0?

oh and it does it in all weather, happened before and after i installed my k&n intake

Codeman, the problem you are talking about I had whern I first got my 2006. Took it to a transmission guy and he said all you have to do is grease the rearv drive shaft where it slides together. After he did that to mine it was fixed for that problem. You may want to check this out. The garage i purchased my truck from put new rear springs on my truck and a number of other trys before i found out about this grease on the drive shaft thing.

The problem I am have now is much harder slam and only in four wheel drive and after about 40mph. It definately is coming from the front of the truck. My truck is back at the trasnmission garage and I am to get it back later today hopefully. I will report on the fix.

OK guys, got my truck back from the transmission garage late Wednesday afternoon. He put a new transfer case on and the problem is gone. I drove it 130 miles yesterday in 4 wheel drive to make sure it did not do the slam thing again. However the transmission guy with 30 years experience cannot find anything wrong with the transfer case he took off my truck. He has torn it appart and says it is a myestry. So end of my slam problem. Yahooooooooooo.

I have a 2005 ranger that does exactly the same thing when it snows. Has done it consistently for six years every time it snows.

Cbeijar, Assuming you are referring to the "random misfire only when it snows".The first thing i would suggest would be to get a good air filter and replace the old one with it. This seems to be the common denominator with everyone that has had this problem and resolved it. Inexpensive fix too. Mine was just that the air filter cover was not snapped into place. Fortunately for me, i only had to put up with it for one one Michigan winter before discovering the fix. Good luck.

In New Hampshire, bad weather leads to 4wd. So, I thought I had a Ujoint issue, when in 4WD. Maybe sticking once in a while or something. Happened during a snow storm.

Then I drove for 2 days in 4 High, while it was raining. Not a problem. Weird.

Next snow storm, happens again, must be snow getting in to a ujoint or something else.

Still no problem later.

Driving down a clear road, 2 days after a snow storm. 18 wheeler with a lot of snow on the roof pulls out in front of me. As soon as the snow starts flying all around me (in 2wd), BAM, problem starts again. And continues. Until the snow was gone.

Glad I found this thread, couple snow storms coming, I will advise after I play with the Maf/airfilter.

2006 XLT with a four point oh crap.

Yep, air filter was in a nice hour glass shape, not installed correctly. Replaced with a premium from Napa. Drove in 2 inch an hour snow today, NO PROBLEM! So, I hope this helps someone who encounters the same problem.

This defiantly fixed my issue. I now only use motorcraft filters and havent had an issue since.

Old news to most here but my '06 Ranger develops the random misfire - only when it's snowing, no problem in rain. And yes I have the K&N air filter which, from the comments above, seems to be a contributing factor. Maybe I'll try an OEM filter next winter, but I'll stick with the K&N til then because I'm convinced it improves gas mileage.

I had the same problem with mine a few years ago. Engine would kind of shutter or misfire going down the road only when it snowed. Started looking g around and found my air box wasn't quite snapped shut all the way. Snapped it shut good and it never did it again.

Yay!!
You are not going to believe this.... you sir have solved my problem as well.... 99 2.5l with a KN filter strapped to the MAF causing exactly the same issue. I had a 97 Mustang GT 4.6l that also did this exact same problem only with KN filters.

Methinks Fords MAF sensors don't work well with KN cotton particles, maybe someone should let them know, anyway cheers to you sir for solving my 1 year issue....

It’s not the cotton it’s the oil on those slimy piece of shit K&N filters it contaminates the MAF.
