Re: What oil do you use in your 4.0?
i need to think about things before i post. How in the world do you change a filter but not the oil? sounds to me like it will pour out

Re: What oil do you use in your 4.0?
I stick with the recommended 5W-30 and change every 5,000 miles. That's a compromise between regular and severe usage and easy to remember when to change. Currently using synthetic blend by Motorcraft or Castrol. Wish I knew the % of synthetic in those blends.
70,000 miles and never uses a drop between changes.

Re: What oil do you use in your 4.0?
your oil when shut off goes into the sump of the pan which is lower than said filter , sure some will spill from the filter and what all did not drain to the pan yet but would be minimal.
Unless it s running and pumping oil then you gotta helluva problem with oil everywhere lol

Re: What oil do you use in your 4.0?
Use mobil 1, 10w-30 with motorcraft filter. First vehicle that I have used synthetic in, we will see how it works. Oil changes are $30 on sale, so I usually stock up.

Re: What oil do you use in your 4.0?
I agree with the motorcraft bit. Thats all I used in my f150.
Also, I will never buy another fram filter. They are the crappiest filter out there. Ill have to dig up some info to back up my statements but they pretty much have the potential to fall apart at any time. I personally know someone who had a fram filter collapse and it blew up his motor.

Mobil 1 5w30, at the moment I have a mobil one filter in it as well. Although I'm trying to see if there is a baldwin that will work on it.

yeah, when the truck's off it's a non issue. Hell, when I change both, half the time I end up changing the filter first anyway.
And when I do just the filter I top off afterwards

Re: What oil do you use in your 4.0?
5w30 motorcraft semi syn. and motorcraft filter between 5 and 7000 miles at the local ford dealer. 29 bucks, and I dont have to worry about getting rid of the used oil.
P/S at $29.99 they also do tire rotation. and the wifes (hhr) gets the same tretment.Ranger has 152,500 and not a drop on the driveway.

Re: What oil do you use in your 4.0?
I use Mobile 1 10w30 with either K&N or Bosch Filters. Advance Auto here has 5 quarts and one or the other filters on sale for $30 everyother month.
I normally try to buy 3 or 4 oil changes when it is on sale.
I change oil whenever it starts turning dark brown.
In my opinion, if oil is black its broken down. If you rub your thumb and forefinger together with the oil and can feel your fingers, it broken down.

Re: What oil do you use in your 4.0?
I just changed it about 500 miles ago with a carquest filter and carquest 5w-30
Only reason is because my dad works for carquest and I get it all for super cheap

Re: What oil do you use in your 4.0?
castrol high mileage with either a fram filter or K&N...Never had problems with any of it.
Dont ever take your car to jiffylube....they blew up my maxima and refused to take fault. After calling the district manager several times he finally said "take it to a mechanic and if they can prove its our fault then we will talk." This is after we drained the 6-8qts of oil out...they didnt even drain it. Looked online and found pages and pages of similar experiences.
