Default Odd noise over 2500 rpm

I have a 2001 xlt 4x4 4.0 with 85000 miles. I started noticing a noise tht I can't explain once I get to 2500 rpm. I can't pinpoint wheree exactly the noise is coming from or why it's happening and would like to find out about it without paying expensive diagnosis fees. If you or anyone you know has ever had or heard of this problem please let me know. I figured I could count on all the cool fellas here to help me out. Thanks again. Dustin

If it comes from the engine area I would guess its the timing chain tensioner issue that the 4.0 from that year has. To me the sound resembles water rushing really fast behind the dash and to the passenger side.

hmm honestly I dont think its anything than hearing the truck run and all the different parts. I get that same sound on my 06, and I get different noises when its in each different gear of if its in neutral, I think its just the nature of the beast man. I would say just try not to worry about it. When I first got the truck I was always worrying about all the little sounds and how different things felt, and hated never having anyone elses to compare to you know to see if mine was normal. The best thing I did was crank up the radio so I dont hear them lol. you will go nuts trying to catch all of the little grimlins.

Check your heater control valve, there is a special service message from Ford that mentions the orifice for the valve being too big and allowing for water to tumble around in it. What you can do to verify this would be to loop your coolant system and eliminate the heater control valve from the coolant circuit.

Yeah, its weird and I had one kick my @$$ to the high heavens until I pull the dash out looking for it and with a stethiscope heard the noise on the firewall, I had a tech grab the heater control valve and he felt it vibrating.
