Default 4.0L V6 engine

Check engine light comes on @ idle 600 rpm, po306 code says misfire on cylinder 6, replaced fuel injector 2X, compression @ 120 lil low, should be 160 or 180, Mechanic thinks bad spring on valve or tight valve or camshaft lobe..What u think..

Thanks, Murf...

Might have a bad ignition (spark plug) wire

Check all the cylinders for compression while your at it. If #6 is the only one with lower compression then you can be more confident with your mechanics take, and eliminate worn compression rings as a root cause.
Switching around existing coils or coil pack from A to B (what year/engine?) can eliminate faulty ignition coil. If the misfire follows the coil then you know whats up.
The absence of an engine knock code reduces the likelihood of carbon build up.

2001 Ford Ranger, Engine has been checked for worn rings, engine has 73000 miles on it. Spark plug was changed and wire also, no improvements, used a can of seafoam, placed it in oil and gas tank and is better idling, but engine light comes on once in awhile. Is off for now, but not sure for how long it will last. What you think? Tight valve guide maybe, or spring, camshaft lobe? Thanks for the suggestions,
Murf..

If you already have a full on code then it's safe to say it's not a false misfire.
Since it's limited to a specific cylinder:
-Any misfire stemming from faulty sensor input can be eliminated
-Defective ignition coil wouldn't apply unless you had separate packs for each cylinder.
-ixnay bad fuel or fuel pressure.
-Forget timing slippage
-You could say faulty injector if it weren't for the lower compression, which indicates mechanical causes minus the ones that would be accompanied by oil consumption, like your mechanic is already suggesting.

But how did anybody know that it's not the compression rings on that cylinder? And what are his reasons for eliminating head gasket or cracked head or block? Just wondering.

Mechanic says he did a compression check and some sort of pressure test to see if it looses pressure past the rings and head. That and there aren't any oil leaks, or mix of coolant and oil, or vice versa, which would probably mean a bad head gasket or crack, supposedly. not sure... What else would be the problem, i have no other ideas, how about you?

Thank You, Murf..???

I have seen these cause that same issue on #6, broken valve spring on one engine and a bad head gasket on another.

Thank for the suggestions, I really appreciate the time and advice you all are giving me. The check engine light finally came back on a week after the mechanic reset it at the garage, Why would it take so long?, and the truck idled rough again for a few minutes then seemed ok ....What's with this engine????

Thanks again..... Murf.
