Default Just installed "SCT Trailer Towing Tune" from Brenspeed.

I wanted to give my 2009 4.0 a little help pulling my boat this summer, and climbing hills in the Adarondacks during hunting season. I'll load the tune in advance of the heavy workout, then return to "stock" after pulling & climbing. It takes about 90 seconds to complete a download.
I loaded an SCT tune in my 2006 mustang GT 4yrs ago along w/ a gear change and that made a big performance difference. I'll report back with a review of the tune, the next time I need the truck to do some "heavy lifting".

Yes - this will make a difference... do you have any logs of your timing/fuel before and after?

So it's basically a Torque tune like from any other tuner(rogue, bama). You'll see some good things come from it. It's about the most popular ran tune, higher octane torque tune...at least in these trucks.

You'll love it! The torque tune on my 2.3 makes it tow much better, and feel like a diesel. Tons of grunt down low. I usually add a couple degrees of timing via global settings when I load the torque tune, since Doug at Bama was *quite* conservative when he made my 93 octane tunes.

I need to hook up a laptop so I can log it so I know just what to change though. Trial and error will only get you so far.

What does your 93 octane torque tune do to your mpg under normal driving conditions...(no heavy loads or pulling)?

It goes down to about 26mpg mixed. But I still averaged 21 mpg pulling a 7000lb trailer. I don't recommend doing that much though, as it's a bit more than the truck is designed for.

If you did the gear change same time you did the programing, I would say the big difference you saw was the gear change. Yes the programing does help alot I used a Super Chip flashpac. I changed the shift points and pressures, unlocked the speed limiter, and adjusted for some larger tires. Mileage is up possibly due to the speedometer adjustment. But the "fun factor" went WAY up!

You just add timing for the hell of it without taking data?

Dangerous!

no, played with it a bit to find out where it was at and how much more it would take without pinging, then backed off a bit. Not just "for the hell of it". I just need to do better than listening for the first sign of detonation and then backing off 2 degrees. I know I can get more out of it, but without more data, I know it would be dangerous, and I need to figure out just when to add and take away.

Oh, and the "93 octane" tunes I have are the same as his 91 tunes. Which don't even push the limits of 89.

So where do I get a good custom tune now. Doug at Bama doesn't do Rangers any more. Brenspeed told me they won't have any for my truck for atleast 3 more months.
I don't need a tuner, I have one. I just need somewhere to get the custom tune.
