Default Newbie needs help

I have always had japanese sports sedans until I picked up a 98 Ranger XLT Super Cab on Saturday. I'm pretty handy with a wrench and I've already done the following:

Completed:

- Replace plugs
- Replace plug wires
- Replace air filter
- Replace serpentine belt
- Replace blower resistor (blower wan't working properly)
- Replace fuel filter
- Oil Change w/ new filter (5W30)

To Do:

- Clean MAF
- Clean IAC
- Clean Throttle Body
- Replace differential fluid (front & rear)
- Replace transfer case fluid

The Problems:

1. When I rev the engine from idle the RPMs drop slowly when returing to idle. Once idle is acheived, RPMs drop to ~500 and engine stumbles slightly. After the mild stumble the engine returns to normal idle. I can achieve the same results every time I rev the engine. Do I have a vaccum leak? Is this a MAF or IAC issue? Is this a throttle cable issue?

2. I have an automatic transmission. The shifter points to the wrong gear. For example, in Nuetral shifter indicates Reverse. How do I fix this?

Also, please let me know if I've forgotten a key maintenance items that might improve how the truck runs and performs.

I'm not sure about the revving problem. but with the shifter knob. remove the kick panel under the steering wheel. there should be one colored like the rest of your dash. and under it one that is metal but under that there is a cable like wire connected to a piece of metal that is shaped kind of like a v (i think). but, move your gear shift while you look under the dash (with key turned to on but engine not started and parking brake on) and you will see the little "v" shaped piece move when you move the gear shift and just mess with the cable a little bit until you get it right. (There is also a plastic piece near the end of the cable that you can spin and it tightens and loosens the cable) hopefully that might help you with one of your questions. if not, i will go outside saturday (or one day this weekend) and mess with mine since I need to anyways and I will be able to explain it better. unless someone on the forum can explain it better.

[EDIT] - Actually, I started thinking... it might be your IAC now that I think about it... since it does have to do with your idleing. (maybe even check your throttle cable) try cleaning it and see if that is the problem (you might as well clean your throttle body while your at it since it's right there) but if not, try replacing it. that might work. and if not.. hopefully someone else on here will have some more suggestions.

Here are some links on this forum to help you out if you need it.
Cleaning your throttle body
Cleaning your Mass air flow Sensor
and
Cleaning your IAC

Hope this helps :P

Got everything fixed a few months back and forgot to post the resolutions.

Shifter - took off lower dah panel and adjusted the cable. Selector points to the correct gear now. Took 10 minutes; easy fix.

Idle problem - cleaned MAF and IAC - problem solved.
