Default 1996 Ranger crankshaft position sensor

Hello,

Recently, my ranger was not able to start... it crank but no turn over...so i though it was the fuel pump but...the mechanic told me it was the crankshaft position sensor? Would that cause the engine not to start? How much would be the repair...including parts and labor? Please help?

Cool Re: 1996 Ranger crankshaft position sensor

My check engine light came on just the other day, and the code said it was the "clutch position sensor". Is replacing this something I can do, or should I take it to a mechanic?

I have a 97 2.3 2wd. Mine was wissing on accelaration!!! Replaced the crank sensor and all is good! Not sure on the 4.0, but mine is on the left side of the harmonic balencer looking at the engine. At about the 10 oclock position. I took the belt, fan and alternator off pulled the tensioner back and took mine off. It was a pain to do it this way, but easier than draining the cooling system and and taking off the outlet tube to the water pump. Just to get to one bolt! Hope it helps not to hard to do, figure about 3 hrs!
