4.0 ohv to 4.0 sohc question
Hey there I have been wanting more power from my engine but after looking at performance parts it seems more practical to upgrade engine. I was lookin at the 5.0 swap from a 98 explorer but with all the work and getting 210 hp out of the 5.0 i was thinking about the 4.0 sohc engine that has 210 already. The question i have would all engine componets hook up? (radiotor, alternator, tranny) i know i would need the computer from the donr

Re: 4.0 ohv to 4.0 sohc question
I saw someone that did a OHV to SOHC on one of these ranger forums....forgot who and where though.
If you are tired of 160hp, you're going to get tired of 210 pretty quick too. I suggest go with a 5.0...a lot more room to grow in the 5.0

Re: 4.0 ohv to 4.0 sohc question
As for your question if the 0hv-sohc swap is do-able...yes it is. however, this just my opinion, but i would do the 5.0. With all the work you will have to do for the 4.0 Sohc (new computer, wiring and what not), i think you would be better off with a 5.0. If you are looking at the horsepower figures, they are not far apart (210 sohc/215 5.0) but the torque figures (what your going to feel) the figures read (240-250 sohc/280-290 5.0). If you already had a SOHC, i would say to stick with it and mod it instead of upgrade to 5.0. But to decide between the two as an upgrade, with all the work involved, the 5.0 is the better option.

Re: 4.0 ohv to 4.0 sohc question
yea id say 5.0 swap because youll actually get more mpgs from it because the engine isnt having to work as hard to push such a light truck and i wish i was getting more power with my sohc and my previous car was a 92 honda accord. so go with a 5.0 because youll end up doing the same amount of work and an exaust on that will sound awesome compared to the 4.0

ive owned both, 2 OHV's and one SOHC and there is definatly a big difference, especially towing.
