the gas cap is original and seems to be fine. The truck did this once before, back when I bought it new, in '02. Dealer fixed @ no charge, said overfilling tank is a no-no... I've been overfilling it ever since with no problems....

Maybe try and wipe the lip of the cap ade where it screws into the tank, sometimes the fumes make the ight come on..

have the codes pulled. untill you do that it will be a crap shoot as to why they light came on. it might be a total coincidence that it came on right after you filled up.

Mine came on this morning on my way to work. Never thought the gas cap, cause i filled up on Friday and its half now. But thats what the guy at Autozone said too.

It came up P0442.
"EVAP (evaporative emission system) small leak/no flow condition. The EES is monitored for its ability to hold vacuum. Probable cause - defective or loose fuel cap - EVAP canister or hose cracked/not connected - purge or vent solenoid defective - vacuum leak at engine."

Of course, this is only relevant if its the same problem.

So I have this code now....the P0442. I had it cleared 3 times now and it's back again. Cleaned around gas filler and the rubber seal on the inside of the gas cap. That didn't help I guess. It came on a few hundred miles after I changed my fuel pump....wonder if that has anything to do with it or just coincidence? It was a used fuel pump. If someone could help me out on what the next step I should be taking or what to test next that'd be awesome.

Thanks guys

take it and have it smoke tested by a pro, a pinched or nicked o-ring will set this code. Having it smoked will take care of the guess work.
