Default OHV vs SOHC

i have a 3.0 in my 2001 ranger right now but im gonna be swapping that out hopefully around the end of the year. i already know that im going with a 4.0 but ive been doing the research and the OHV engines are a bit cheaper than the SOHC ones, but i know rangers were SOHC in 2001 so i just dont know which one i should get. anyone have any input on which is better? or if there even is that much of a noticeable difference between the two?

SOHC if you have a choice and want to go 4.0... Personally, if you're going to do a swap anyways, Id go 5.0 v8...Gonna get about the same gas mileage either way.

obviously a v8 is more powerful but if you want a 4.0, the sohc has more power all around but i have an ohv in mine and it definately is not underpowered. it depends on what you want and can afford
