Cold air intake or k&n

What works the best with the 4.0 cold air intake or a k&n filter.

What you have now from the factory is basically a cold air intake.

A aftermarket intake will provide nothing unless you add other aftermarket parts and a tuner.

Just stick with a k&N filter and clean it regularly

I wouldnt get a CAI. I have one and completely regret it. I shoulda just got a k&n or aem drop in. Im actually thinking about going to the junkyard and getting a entire intake system off of a truck and swapping the stock system back in and sell the CAI.

A K&N filter is just a filter.

A CAI will get its air at a greater distance from the engine than stock to provide air that's cooler.

A short ram is useless (edit: it does take off a restriction, but it's not going to be a very noticeable improvement), but it makes a nice sound depending on engines.

I've never heard so many bad things about CAI's until I joined this forum. Is this true for all vehicles, or just the Ranger?

i also like my K&N intake kit but i bought it knowing it isnt a cold air intake and i wasnt expecting huge gains or anything from it, although i did notice a small gain in mileage. i mainly like the huge washable filter element, plus it sounds cool. lol

Hahaha. So you think the outside air right there is different than the outside air somewhere else? Right. Try again. And a ram intake accomplishes nothing either since the intake is not a restriction. I don't care how you want to hype up your shiny useless tube, but until you put it on a dyno (and prove yourself wrong), you are blowing hot air. Everything I've said has been dyno proven over and over and over and over by multiple people. I'm not faced with facts, I am the facts. You on the other hand have opinion on your side...

To answer the original question, neither is really worth the money. The CAI is a total waste of money. Like, fuzzy dice waste of money. A K&N will not yield any performance increase. The only thing useful about it is that it is reusable. You have to re-oil it and if you over-oil it, it will screw up the intake. A normal paper filter costs $10. In my opinion, it's a waste of time. Your money can be spent on other useful things.

I went outside to snap some pics of my intake, but you know what, now that i see for myself how the ranger's intake works, and how little it has to do with a CAI, i'm doing the mod.

Your argument makes no sense, you can say dyno this dyno that, physics are physics.

I'm out of this waste of time.
