Default Is my engine OHV SOHC?

I know....dumb question but I have to ask anyway. I have an 01 XLT with a 4.0 in it. Is that OHV or SOHC? And what what the OHV and SOHC mean? I have seen some other engines like mine that were SOHC and there is a plastic cover that goes over the throttle cables in the center of the engine which mine doesn't have. This truck is a rebuild from a crash (plastic cover may have been taken off due to this) so I know it is definately a 4.0 but i don't really know the difference

You're a Single OverHead Cam (SOHC) As far as OHV? Off-Highway Vehicle????Turkey Bay is the name of a OHV area I used ot run my 4-wheeler around in when I lived in Tennessee. Don't recall OHV referring to a truck engine. IF it does...will OverHead Valveswork for you? never known valves not to be on the top of a cylinder, but who knows?

Hold your mouse of the initials and it will tell you. Quite a few are linked that way on here.

It came from when engines didn't have over head valves. An example of a non-over head valve engine would be an L-head Briggs and Stratton motor (anything less than 7 hp). The 7 hp engine has a domed cover over the cam and so do Honda air cooled engines, that is how you can tell they have OHV.

OHV stands for over head valve.

Go to www.newfordparts.com to look it up and then do a search on ebay or where ever from there. Or check out a junk yard.

I'd call it a throttle body cover...Or a third brake light with white cargo lights, or a guage cluster with the silver bevels....while you're out looking....................................

You should post a pic of the motor just to be safe....that would suck if the reason it doesn't have that plastic cover is because it's a transplanted OHV 4.0.....lol
