I have a 2002 4.0 Edge with 241,000+ that will intermittently not start. When this happens the Check Engine Light and Check Fuel Cap light will not illuminate when you turn the key but the remaining electronics (dash lights, HVAC, radio) work just fine. When you turn the key the starter will not kick in nor is there any movement from the engine (its like trying to start the truck without pushing the clutch peddle in). The charge on the battery is fine so its not a weak battery. Once I turn the key on and off a few times it will finally start (I know it will start when the Check Engine and Check Fuel Cap lights turn on). Sometimes I could go days or weeks without a problem. I purchased it new in 2002 so I've done a fair bit of work on it over the years and know the work that has been done but this one has me stumped.

sounds like a security key issue!

Reprogrammed two new keys since I still have the original keys. It's still occurring but the frequency has dropped. If and when it does happen, it's seems to happen on the initial start-up after sitting for a period of time, especially overnight. Went to start this morning and had to turn the key 5 times or so before the Check Engine Light and Fuel Cap Light would come on and the starter would engage. Afterwords, made 3 stops running errands and no issues. I've read that it also could be an ignition issue.
