So I’m not sure if this has been covered yet I’ve searched the threads for awhile last night but I couldn’t find anything that was like my situation I apologize if I missed something but here it is I just bought a 2000 ranger xlt 4.0 it only has 75,000 original miles I can’t get it to start it’ll crank and sputter a bit but that’s about it I have done the 50/50 test at least I think that’s what it’s called and it fired right up when I gave it a shot of starting fluid I’ve checked the fuel pump there’s pressure in the lines and I’ve changed the fuel filter but still nothing I ran the cel codes I got a p0302 and a p0455 could any of these possibly be causing the no fire or are these just a bonus of the bigger issue

P0302, cylinder #2 is missfiring, bu that shouldn't keep the engine from starting. Have you replace the spark plug? Motorcraft tend to be my ONLY choice when come to this engine. Is there any oil leak front of the engine? At the crank shaft pulley, there is a sensor if there is any oil or bad connection. Clean the connection with electrical cleaner.

As for the P0455, leaking fuel vapor fault. This is very common on this truck. Check the filler hose (big one). It have tendency to crack at the filler filler neck. A simple install, just remove the 6 bed bolts and lift the bed.

make sure your battery is good.. i had a strange start problem on a weak battery, truck would crank pretty good but wouldnt start! i put a brand new battery in and she fired right up!.. tried the old battery again after and wouldnt start but would crank over pretty good... STRANGE

Hi I am having same issue but with no codes. But my 2002 4.0 will do this intermittently. Replaced fuel filter now thinging fuel pump. Have you rsolved your issue?
