Exclamation 4.0 Scan Codes

Have code PO455 and PO171 on my 1998 Ford Ranger. My truck has a 4.0 backed with a manual transmission, packaged in a single cab. I would really appreciate any information I can get in the repair of these codes with spending $1000 in parts without the cost of my time and shop bill. Through extensive research, I've learned that both codes are thrown due to evap, fuel, air intake, and exhaust system anomalies, but I could not find one, central, point to actually fix or replace that would "cure" both codes and remove my check engine light for longer than a scanner erase of the vehicle codes. Help needed, thank you

P0455 code, dealt with emission. The Ranger are known to have bad rubber filler hose (the big one). If you look down toward the gas tank, you will see cracks. This is pretty simple fix, just remove the 6 bolts to the bed and lift the bed to one side where you have enough room to get to it.

P0171, you have vacuum leak or engine is running lean. I would make sure all the vacuum lines are connected and no crack to the connection. Maybe better to have smoke test, if you have access to one.

Thank you 2000RangerAl, I didn't even think about the actual filler neck cracking/splitting, although, since my 2000 Taurus had that issue, I should have thought about that first on this truck...
