Default System to Lean Bank 1 & 2

My Check Engine Light has been on forever. Its caused Rough idle and the engine to shake and stall out in the past. It has moved over from that to now not starting at all. The engine with crank like it wants to start but it doesnt turn over. I have done what my Owners manual tells me to do by putting the gas pedal to the floor and try starting it. I did that a few times last night with the engine not starting and no smell of gas. It did start last night with starting fluid however. My gut is telling me the fuel pump is dying and causing this. I have swapped the MAF, Fuel filter, air filter, run more bottles of injector cleaner threw the engine, even Sea Foam all to no help.

Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem as well with my '01. Same problems, but not stalling out or not starting. It mis-fires at idle, and I had Advanced Auto Parts scan it, with it showing: Lean in banks 1 & 2, and multiple misfires. Anyone have any ideas for us?

lean bank 1 and 2 codes almost always mean there is a vacuum leak somewhere and depending on the severity of the leak it can cause rough idles and poor performance. as for the OP's truck not starting now im not sure if its related to the lean codes but its hard to be sure.

Jp7's thread is spot on.
You have either a done for fuel pump, or blown out intake gaskets pulling too much air in.

the trick is "where on the load scale are the maps being compensated"

Load or non-load.

Fuel pump goes out. People always say "they just go out they don't get weaker, they just go" that is not the case. A month before mine went out, I experienced the engine codes you got, as well as a hesitation in taking off, to almost no power at all, to a rough idle to a horrible miss-fire. All that stuff went away for about a day, and it was running like champ, shut her down in my drive way (behind my damn main vehicle), and went to start it a hour later, and it wouldn't crank.

Fuel pumps do not just go on these things, I mean they can, but most of the time you get these codes, along with the issues you were having.

1) you really should do a fuel pressure test (takes about 20 minutes, check the fuel pressure regulater for fuel in the vacuum line also) dx AND THEN REPLACE

2) you might want to consider puloling the bed of to change the pump.....check your leafspring hangers and shckles for rust if they need replacing you can do it with the bed off

I have the same problem with the codes, I had to replace the lower intake gaskets. Also while I was in there, I had to replace the lower intake manifold gasket. Had a small leak from the back passenger side of the manifold. It's an easy fix.
