Long post but please help
Good morning,
Truck was in a wreck in summer 2015 (airbags deployed). I dumped in a new long block, along with brand new belt driven accessories and I replaced everything below the frame in my 2006 4.0 4x4 back in the summer of 2017. The plan was to have a mechanically new truck, and I do with the exception of the trans and transfer case.
With all that work done, I started it up and had my victory moment and the truck ran for about 10 minutes at idle and warmed up. I was about to take it for a lap around the block and when I pressed the brake pedal to put it in gear everything died and it has been at no crank/no start since then. Between frustration, 2 overseas deployments, and a brand new baby it has just been sitting since then but I'm trying to get this thing back on the road.
Here are my symptoms:
- No start/no crank but everything else electrical seems to be working with key in run position
- with the key in the run position, the fuel pump runs constantly instead of priming the rail and stopping
- code reader won't even acknowledge that it's hooked up to the truck with key in run position
Does this sound to anyone like my computer has shat the bed? Or should I start with a fuel relay and go over all my grounds again for the 10th time to make sure (again) that none were missed when I hooked the new wiring harness back up? Or should I start with the ignition switch? I'm at a standstill right now.

Yikes. For everyone you should have the year, trim, and motor in your signature. Im not a whiz but heres my first thought. Should a starter "relay" on the driver side, on the fender with two terminals. Make sure you in neutral, parking brake, and in front or behind. Take your favorite wrench and short the two posts. Even with the key out it should crank. Good luck!

Have you checked all the fuses? The code reader not responding sounds like the fuse for the lighter being blown.

I've checked all the fuses and they're good. Code reader plugs into OBD II not the lighter.

Same fuse runs both.

Yes, thank you for that little bit of knowledge, I am aware where a code reader plugs in. It gets its power from the same circuit as the lighter. If the lighter fuse is blown, plug will appear to be dead.
Sounds like you have all the knowledge already, you don't need any help.

Actually, installing my starter. It is the starter relay that you short to activate the starter. Remember, this will work without key in ignition, so be safe!

The frame had to look like a pretzel but mechanically trouble free. OK Pinocchio.

It was rear ended. Had to replace the entire bed, gas tank. My truck drove away. The dodge 4x4 busted the radiator on my rear hitch. Score!
