Default Ticking sound developed

Changed my oil back in December with a high mileage oil, first time using this vs regular oil. Engine never made noise until I noticed a ticking sound today that is consistent with the rpm. Can this develop due to an oil change?

Only if you used the wrong viscosity. "High mileage" oils generally just have additives that help swell seals and gaskets to slow leaks, some have higher detergent levels to clean sludge.

As Dirtman said..

It could be an oil with higher levels of detergents and that cleaned some sludge out of somewhere in the engine and increased clearances, causing some rattle. It's an "early" 4.0sohc, so timing chain rattle is VERY common. Especially if the wrong viscosity oil was used. The 4.0sohc uses a specific weight of oil for good reason. To help tension the timing chains. It's not entirely impossible that some sludge broke loose and clogged, or partially clogged an oil galley to a tensioner or other part..

Still using the same viscosity as before but some cleaning by the oil seems plausible.

If it were the OHV engine, I could see some oil cleaning action causing a little rattle in the valvetrain, but not on the SOHC valvetrain, due to it's design.. I imagine you're hearing the timing chains rattling. Does it happen around +/- 2400rpm to around 3000rpm when driving down the road?

I think you're likely to have so bigger problems in the near future.

Ticking sounds can also be small exhaust leaks. I know you say it started after an oil change but I've seen plenty of times over the years where people connect dots that aren't there. I'd do some basic investigation.... Use the ole screwdriver trick to trace down the location of the noise.
