Default Can I pull my 93 4.0 OHV motor with A/C still connected?

Hey all,
I was just getting ready to pull my upper & lower intake manifolds for new gaskets and rocker arm covers for new gaskets on my 93 4.0.

While in there I was going to change my rockers and pushrods because they have the usual ticking noise to them.

Then....as luck would have it, a guy was selling a 97 4.0 OHV with only 120,000 on the clock for dirt, dirt cheap...basically "I need this outta my shop to make room" cheap!!

He was in the middle of doing a 5.0 swap into his 2 wheel drive 97 Ranger.

Heck even threw in the 5 speed with the deal for no extra!

So now I'm at a crossroads....

Do I just proceed with my re-gasketing and rocker replacement on my '93 motor, or go to the trouble of swapping over all the external parts and changing entire engines (actually the cheaper route, believe it or not)?

If I do pull my 93 motor out, I cant for the life of me see how it will clear the still connected air conditioning lines that are routed IN FRONT of the engine (thanks Ford!!)

I really don't want to disconnect the lines because it's an R-12 system and it still works just fine, if you can believe that??!!

So tell me, will I be able to clear it?

I know I will have to pull radiator, fan & fan clutch, etc to make room....but I don't want to get 3/4 of the way through removal and find out it wont clear the lines....

Whats the consensus please?

Thanks!

Just unbolt the compressor from the engine leaving the hoses attached. lol

Uhhh...you saw the part about 93's having the A/C lines wrapped around the FRONT of the motor right?

Good old Engineers didn't provide a whole lotta slack in the lines, or clearance when unbolted.

Later year models they routed the A/C lines around the rear of the motor.

Actually, I have loads of common sense when it comes to mechanical stuff...thank you very much.

I've spent 30 years of my life maintaining aircraft that peoples lives depend on....cant quite pull over to the side of the road when your soaring at 30,000 feet.

I just thought I'd ask if anyone's actually tried it before I got it 3/4 of the way out and got hung up....that's just the researcher in me.

I guess I should have known better than to ask the smart ass peanut gallery.

I would bet that you could on a 93 but it might be iffy on the pressure across the engine

First off, let me be the first one to openly post that when on a forum, understand a form of being a part of the group requires two things.. A thick skin and just as much of an open mind as is expected of others.. and that's not hypocrisy. Being a bit of a smart ass makes friends, being bitter or butt hurt just makes martyrs.

And as someone MORE familiar with the aeronautical industry, There is a reason as to why all Aircraft Maintenance has to be done by F.A.A. certified mechanics and not just any Joe can work on his own aircraft.. RIGHT?

Which brings about 2 times now in relation to common sense which despite popular belief has absolutely NOTHING to do with intelligence or even IQ. Intelligence is merely the ability to remember or recall written or taught things. IQ is the ability to problem solve, neither which are related. Some have one or and or not the other, rarely do they have both.., and often, MOST have neither.

But back to your dilemma.. as Dvrich pointed out when you mentioned ALL of the things about the design flaws and or shortcomings.. regardless of how many of us came off as being a$$****s.. its just the way we teach each other when to realize the "Ahhhhh haaaaa... Moment"

Now group hug fast everyone so no one sees and thinks we're all a$$****s AND weird too..! Thats a bad combo

EDIT.. Really? Am I just noticing the bad words editing? What are we all 12 now again Tom? geezus.. 1st Amendment audit Fay-ul
