I,m looking for individuals who have first hand knowledge/experience with Started to run/start poorly about 1 year ago and has got progressively worse until now (no Start) a 1990 4.0. 200k+ miles The plus and wires are less than a year old and look ok. I don..t have a OBD1 tester and no knowledge of codes. Modules the names are confusing to me. Where exactly is the PCM? or is there one and where is it exactly.
I just need some ideas here The old man says thanks Jim

You don't need an OBD1 tester, you just need some wire to jump a couple of connectors under the hood. You will read light flashes from the CEL light on the dash. The PCM is usually located under the passenger side kick panel (If I recall correctly)

Under the hood, on the passengers side near the blower motor should be a plug with a cap on it that read EEC IV. This the diagnostics port for getting the CEL light on the dash to blink.

Not the best in video quality but will show you what connector to jump and the location of the EEC IV connector.

And here is a list of codes for the OBD 1 system. Just count the flashes and look up.

Hope this helps with some of the mystery.

And if you' want to make things a little easier for the sake of learning, the above method is good to know for sure, especially for the sake of NOT having a tool to use. But if you're worried you'd spend a lot of money for the OBD I tool - https://www.amazon.com/INNOVA-3145-F.../dp/B000EW0KHW

I keep it in the truck for no reason other than the time I would take it out, I'd have a need for it. It's like reverse Karma.

1st question - is the CEL (Check Engine Light) on?

2nd question - When you say over the last year, started to "run/start poorly".. can you be more specific of the symptoms if the CEL is not on?

The check engine light is out now. I usually comes on after a runto town similar slowing fo I believe that's not good What do you think caused these readings? What is the first item in all the truck systems to activate when the key is turned? r light or stop. It will stay on until I shut off or back up to cruise. its seems at time like it temp related. I removed the coil pack and tested with multimeter as per my Chilton manual.the primary resistance was .6/1.1/1.0 B+ to the plug toweres was 0 No ohms
