Default my valve taints are cracked

is it a common issue to have cracks inbetween the valves on the late model ohv heads?.. I picked up a 99 with what I though was a leaky head gasket or a cracked head in the third cylinder. when I took the head off I was amazed to find cracks between the valves on the 1st and 3rd cylinder and a bad seal on the third cylinder gasket. the other head was equally fucked with cracked between the 4th and 5th cylinder.... I called atleast 4 salvage yards in my area and not a single one had any 4.0 heads. one shop took three motors apart all with cracks. my confidence in ford is waning however as shitty as the heads were the motor ran amazing. I would sometimes think the motor wasn't running at lights. it was only a little rough starting it up in the morning

Gage, the problem IIRC would be an issue if the engine was overheated it would crack the heads. I purchased my 2000 Ranger used w/105K miles on it & I had to replace the heads because they were cracked. If you need to replace the heads DO NOT get used or remanufactured heads. I purchased new cylinder heads for my Ranger from J&C Enterprises in West Virginia. I also replaced the valve lifters & rebuilt the rocker assemblies at the same time.
