recently I've been having an ISSue with my i/d light blinking and my gears start to shift rough. this is on a 99 range sport by 4.0 xlt. any proactive maintenance I can do for this,?

Blinking O/D light is to the transmission as Check Engine Light is to the engine.

Could be any of dozens of possible problems. Get the transmission trouble code(s) pulled to give you direction. Any other approach is just blind guesswork.
