Rattle Sound around 3000 RPM
Hello everyone! I am new to the forum. I have done some searching on my issue but the symptoms I have seem to be different and on a later year model.
When accelerating/under load, rattle noise develops at or close to 3000 rpms from first to second and second to third right before shift. Once it shifts and rpms drop the rattle disappears. The noise is not loud, nor rough sounding. If I accelerate normally, not having to get up and go, it does not make the noise. It does not make the noise at any other time. I cannot tell if it is pinging or not because I don’t know what that sounds like..never heard it before. I’ve read about earlier rangers (00-02), and earlier explorers having a timing chain tensioner issue and I have read the tsb on this but it doesn’t rattle at idle on start up, nor is it happening only when engine cold. I haven’t been able to find anything on the later 2000 models on this.
Has anyone had this issue or know what it could be? The truck has been great and has 97k on the miles. I bought it new in 2011 and have done all services at the recommended time.
Any help or info is greatly appreciated. I don’t want to ruin my engine.
