Default Timing cover headache

I had a timing cover gasket go bad on my 99 ranger 4.0 OHV so I replaced it and it still leaked from in the same area as before, so I replaced it again, still the leak, so now I'm going into it the third time. What I'm wondering is if the cover could be "warped" and that is why it doesn't want to seal? Has anyone ever had this problem with replaceing the cover gasket and does it make a difference as to how close the torque settings are (mine were 22#)?

If you're gonna go in and replace the gasket a third time, why not just replace the timing cover also?

It was warped, replaced with a good used one and the problem was fixed.
