Engine stalls wont restart

Hi guys.
My ranger( 2005 xlt v6 4.0) been running great. drove it from ny to fla and back last novemebr no problems along the way except tires getting low on air.

last two weeks here in ny have been brutally cold -18 to -20s.

started the other morning, got on the highway drove about 25 miles then all of a sudden a little jolt then engine shut off. tried restart and nothing happened.
had it towed to a shop after a few days sitting they said they sprayed some ether in and it started up they let it idle for a few hours. they said it started again this morning. they said nothing wrong with fuel pump. no codes, but not sure if they even scanned it?
so I picked it up was coming home this evening and stepped on the gas hard and same thing!
engine shut off and wouldn't restart. it's sitting down the road from my house. the shop said they will pick it up in the morning.

any ideas what could cause it? I've read some other posts, some say clean the iac valve. I did replace the fuel filter last summer and ran some injector cleaner through it on my trip.
I may go down and try to start it now its been sitting for awhile.

Soooooooo let me ask a couple things.

a) When it kills ignition, what happens? Do you have dash lights? do you hear the fuel pump prime up? Starter solenoid click? starter engage at all?

b) if you turn on the headlights and crank it, does the trucks lights dim deeply or go out altogether while trying to crank?

c) does your under hood fuse box look like this model?

Ok lets see...

A.) when it kills ignition the motor shuts off and the truck glides. I put the truck in neutral and tried to start while gliding. It seemed like all the lights flashed then nothing till I tried to restart. when I turn the key the normal routine lights come on and chime, if I don't put to start the engine light, battery light ,and no sear belt are on. when I put to start the motor spins though it seems a little rough. I sprayed starter fluid in air intake and it did ignite for a second but never fully start up.
the starter seems to be working and no clicking noise heard. I know that sound from my last ranger when the starter went on it.

B.) I did not have lights on while trying to restart. It was daytime.

C.) the shop I brought it too came to pick it up this morning. So I can't run out to look at it.

Hopefully they can figure it out without costing a fortune. cross your finger.
If they can't I will get it home and have to work on it myself.

Nope you answered what I needed to go further with exception of whether the fuel pump relay primes when you turn the key forward but NOT crank it. That will be a key interest question.

Well I just got it back from the shop. They replaced the AP-CRANK SENSOR & AP-HARMONIC BALANCER-CRANK PULLEY.
It seemed to drive normal on the way home and it restarted when I got home. I do hear the fuel pump priming now. I attached a pic of my fuse box.
I will go out look it over and restart it and drive it later when air temp warms up.
Total with labor $343.84, plus towing $216.00 which my insurance will cover.
